Canopic Jars
This series of large covered jars encapsulate a variety of thoughts about how humans react to the unknowable, mystical aspects of nature.
They are handbuilt using porcelain, stoneware and earthenware and finished with an assortment of surfaces from majolica glaze and lustre to salt and wood firing. The narrative aspect of the imagery is enhanced the by use of different techniques from drawing to photo-silkscreen, also known as photo ceramics.
Ancient Egyptians buried canopic jars in tombs together with the sarcophagus of the departed.
